How To Dress Up Like Your Favorite Literary Character for Halloween

Halloween will be coming up in a few days. So chances are there are probably some whom are looking for a last minute costume for a party or even to go out trick or treating in. If you need a quick costume and want to make or get one inspired by your favorite literary characters:

Alice (Alice in Wonderland)

This is a fairy simple one that you can bring your own twist too.

You will need:

  • A blue dress

  • a white apron

  • blonde hair or wig

  • white tights

  • black shoes (preferably Mary Janes)

  • a black headband or black ribbon

Optional: a white rabbit toy with a stopwatch, "Drink Me" potion (bottle with tag attached that says, "Drink Me"), or "Eat Me" cupcake (toy cupcake with tag that says "Eat Me" attached).

Nancy Drew (Nancy Drew Series)

While Nancy has dawned many different attire and discuses over the years, this sleuthing ensemble with .

You will need:

  • a plain thin short sleeves shirt (sleeves longer than a tank top, but shorter than a t-shirt) or any kind of preppy plain shirt like a polo or button up short sleeved dress shirt.

  • a plaid skirt

  • a sweater to tie around neck

  • mary jane shoes

  • magnifying glass

Optional: clue notebook + pen, head band, tights, etc.

Jay Gatsby (The Great Gatsby)

Jay Gatsby is one of the most famous literary characters of all time. It is pretty simple to dress up at this lavish party thrower for Halloween if that is what you wish.

You will need:

  • A white suit

  • white dress pants

  • orange tie

  • blue dress shirt

  • brown vest

  • pocket square

  • brown dress shoes

  • a cane

  • blonde hair

Waldo (Where's Waldo)

While this children's book boy is not easy to find in the stories, you will stand out in this costume at any party or trick or treat route you take.

You will need:

  • red and white stripped long sleeved shirt

  • white cap with red pom pom and red trimming (can easily be made with basic craft supplies)

  • blue jeans

  • back circular glasses

  • brown shoes

Optional: a brown cane or back pack
